Kaits Home Favorite Lodging Alappuzha Backwaters |
Our Kerala Homestay at Kait's Home is the top exotic experience of our travels.
The gracious host, absolutely beautiful setting, delicious and varied authentic Kerala food put this in the top ten exotic vacations list.
Kerala India is a long narrow state located on the southwest coast of India.
It is a hidden gem with very friendly people, gorgeous scenery, beautiful mountains of tea and spice plantations, miles of beaches and the beautiful "Venice of the East"....the Kerala backwaters.
I highly recommend a homestay as a great alternative to hotels in Kerala backwaters. Or....stay in one of the Alleppey hotels for part of your India vacation getaway, then a homestay for a few days and top it off with a night or two on a houseboat in the Kerala backwaters.
Kait's Home is located 15 km southeast of Alleppey on the Alappuzha Backwaters. Check out this video tour of Kait's Home on the backwaters near Alleppey.
The setting is picture perfect with lush vegetation of coconut trees and all kinds of interesting vegetable, fruit and spice plants....have Jossy give you a tour of his gardens.
The accommodations are very nice....clean, simple rooms in small cottages and an original, historic old room in the main house, complete with very fun outdoor shower (pebble floor) and bathroom.
The porches on these cottages have a great views of the river.
This is a peaceful, very relaxing Kerala homestay. Lay in the hammock or sit in the hanging chairs on the front porch of your cottage and listen to the sounds of roosters crowing, birds singing, boats chugging by on the backwaters and the slap, slap, slap of women washing clothes in the river.
If you are feeling ambitious, walk to the nearby town of Champakulam. Check out St. Marys, one of the oldest churches in Kerala, and the various shops with handicrafts. If youre feeling lazy on the way back, hop on an auto-rickshaw for a fun ride back to Kaits Home.
There are many walks in the area where you will be able to observe Indian rural life up-close. Take a water taxi (actually a narrow canoe thats quite tippy and makes for a fun ride) across the river, for what amounts to a nickel, where there are many more walking options.
All of your meals are graciously served out on the private gazebo built over the water for "ring-side" seats to watch life on the river.
This Kerala homestay has fantastic authentic Kerala food....not "tourist fare" found in busy hotels and resorts. They catch their own fish, grown there own vegetables and spices and gather their own eggs. The variety of different Malayalam dishes in the five days we were here was amazing.
The best part of staying at this Kerala homestay is the low cost and three meals are included in your rate! Check out more information and reviews for Kait's Home.
As you can tell, we loved Kaits Home. It is truly one of the favorite and most exotic trips we have taken.
