Driftwood Inn Cottages
My favorite getaway is Mexico Beach, FL where I stayed at the Driftwood Inn. I love Mexico Beach because its small and not a typical tourist destination. If you're looking for a place that is quiet with nice hotels, excellent restaurants, and specialty shopping, Mexico Beach is the place for you.
Its located near a number of the bigger tourist destinations and its easy to drive to Apalachicola or Panama City to access more shopping, entertainment, and restaurants. Port St. Joe, which is very close, offers amenities like fast food as well as other restaurants and places of interest.
The Driftwood Inn an incredibly quaint small inn with cottages right on the beach, nice rooms and beautiful Victorian houses across the street. I've gone down there several times and my favorite place to stay are the small, octagon-shaped cottages. From there, you can sit on the porch and feel the breezes right off the Gulf of Mexico. The rooms all feature antiques that are another thing that makes this inn a unique place to stay. Rooms also feature small kitchenettes. The management is excellent and friendly and the small gift shop offers a variety of interesting items. There is a tea room where events can be hosted. There are gazebos, swings, and a quaint little chapel that would be ideal for a very small wedding. Overall, this is my favorite place to go on vacation because its small, uncrowded, and gorgeous.
There are a number of good restaurants in the area. I've never had anything at any restaurant at Mexico Beach that I was displeased with. Toucan's and Mango Marley's are favorites, but Amanda's Bistro is simply the best food I've ever eaten on a vacation.
